Tangaza University – originally known as Tangaza University College – is a private Catholic university situated in Kenya. It all started back in 1986, when the institution was first established as a centre of theological studies. Fast forward to 2 May 2024, when it finally received its charter to become a fully-fledged university. These days Tangaza offers a diverse array of programmes that cater to students at all different levels – certificate, diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate & even doctoral.
According to uniRank’s 2026 university rankings, Tangaza University is currently ranked 20th in the country – nationally speaking in Kenya. Admission Requirements
Getting in to Tangaza University depends on the course you’ve chosen to take:
Undergraduate Bachelor Programmes:
Applicants need a minimum KCSE mean grade of C+ or its equivalent to get in – if it’s not then each course may have its own requirements that you’ll need to meet.
Graduate Programmes:
Getting in requires either a degree from a good university with a minimum upper second class honours, or the equivalent.
PhD Programmes:
You’ll need a relevant master’s degree with a merit from a university that’s been approved by Tangaza Universitys senate – or some other equivalent achievement.
Certificate Programmes:
You’ll need a minimum KCSE mean grade of D+ to apply – if it’s lower than that then the course may have special requirements.
Diploma Programmes:
Some diploma courses may have a lower KCSE mean grade requirement – like C- or an equivalent – for applicants to get in.
The Application Process at Tangaza University
The application process at Tangaza University is straightforward – and pretty easy to follow. To apply, prospective students have a couple of options:
- Simply head to the Tangaza University website, find and click on the course you’re interested in – and fill out the application online from there
- Or, pop into the admin block and pick up an application form from reception
Applicants will usually need to provide a few bits of paperwork, like academic certificates, a passport-sized photo and any identification documents that are relevant.
